Port Blair, Aug 17: Highlighting about the pathetic condition of Andaman Trunk Road, the Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has written a letter to the Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways and demanded setting up high level expert Committee to review NH4 upgradation works and completing the project at the earliest.
In his letter mailed to the Minister, the Member of Parliament pointed out that the Andaman Trunk Road (NH4) upgradation works began in Andaman and Nicobar Islands to transform the mode of road transport in these Islands and to bring happiness among the residence of North and Middle Andaman nearly five years back but in last five years people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands have suffered heavily due to delay in starting of work, problems in executing the works and in many places due to poor quality of works carried out by NHIDCL contractors.
He mentioned that several protests and agitations have been staged across South Andaman and N&M Andaman by Islanders against delay in NH4 upgradation works and also against poor quality of works.
The MP said that people of North and Middle Andaman have suffered the maximum burnt of such delay and poor quality of work.
He added that today due to unprofessional working style of NHIDCL contractors, it has become too risky to travel trough ATR in North and Middle Andaman and in many stretches, roads are full of mud and loose earth.
Many accidents have also taken place in ATR due to bad road and also vehicles are suffering heavy damages due each journey in ATR, he wrote.
Considering the suffering of general public of North and Middle Andaman and all other ATR users, the Member of Parliament demanded to form a high level expert Committee to review NH4 upgradation works and also to complete the work at the earliest, so that Islanders can reap the benefits of this mega project, after a suffering for more than five years.
