Port Blair, June 20: The President of Andaman Nicobar Teacher’s Association, ANTA has suggested the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration to delay in movement of teachers to their respective places of postings till schools are physically opened for academic activities
In his letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, Mr. Y Sajeevan humbly expressed ovation on the success of the A & N Administration to effectively contain the spread of Covid-19 by the concerted effort of the administration on all fronts on behalf of the entire teaching fraternity.
The president ANTA further pointed out that the Summer Vacation 2021 for the schools of A & N Islands is coming to a close on 29 June 2021. Since the outbreak of the pandemic in early 2020, school education switched over to virtual mode ie, on social media platforms and through the alternative scheme of teaching and learning by the Education Department through All India Radio and Doordarshan.
Physical classroom activities were totally shunted for the elementary level since March 2020 till date. For the secondary stage (classes 9th and above), split classes and staggered timings were tried for a brief period when the situation was normal. Thereafter, a total closure of schools was enforced with the dawn of second wave.
“Now that the new academic session is expected to commence on 30th June 2021, there is going to be a considerable cross district movement of teachers and their families, which under normal circumstances is routine” he added.
The president ANTA further added that the likely-hood of restoration of normalcy seemingly to prolong, and so the virtual mode of academics to continue.
Mr. Sajeevan raised the issue on whether the movement of teachers to their respective places of postings can be delayed till schools are physically opened for academic activities.
As such minimum numbers of teachers are available at all stations to cater to the non academic activities. The online teaching can be operationalized irrespective of the location of the teacher, rather better with the dispatch/delivery of content from Port Blair with superior network, Mr. Sajeevan pointed out.
