Port Blair, Apr 20: In many parts of the country, violence and attacks against doctors and health professionals engaged in the fight against COVID-19 have been reported. Till now, no such incident has been reported in A & N Islands. However, to prevent any such untoward incident in the Union Territory, detailed instructions have been issued to field Police formations on 9th April, 2020 to ensure the safety and security of the doctors, medical staff and other health care workers and volunteers of Health department who are in the frontline in battling and managing the COVID-19 pandemic.
District SPs have been in constant touch with concerned Chief Medical Officers regarding any concern related to the safety of health professionals. Also they have been requested to give advance information to local police regarding sensitive field visits. Police Station level staff has been properly briefed to honour any such request and provide necessary security.
Andaman & Nicobar police is constantly in touch with doctors and health workers to ensure their safety and security. Further, in pursuance of latest guidelines of Government of India, following Nodal Officers have been appointed at District and UT level:
