Port Blair, Apr 23: Four more people have been tested COVID19 positive today in Andaman and Nicobar Islands taking the total number to 22, out of which 11 cases are active.
Informing this to people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands the Chief Secretary of A & N Administration Mr. Chetan Sanghi said that the new cases are contacts from the family of Case Number 12 in Andaman.
“In terms of MHA guidelines we may have to impose local restrictions in South Andaman,” the Chief Secretary said as the number of active cases crossed 10 in Andaman.
Since detection of case number 12 in Andaman, there have been a sudden surge in COVID19 positive cases in Andaman, as the case number 12, a policeman by profession, had visited many places and attended a few family gathering before detection.
Most surprisingly the source of infection of Case Number 12 still could not be established, which is giving a tough time to Andaman’s Health Department.
“An antibody test can only establish whether case number 12 got infection from his brother, who came to Port Blair from Mainland India on 21 March 2020. The brother of Case Number 12 however was not found positive in normal test,” a senior officer of Andaman’s Health Department said on the condition of anonymity.
