Port Blair, March 23: During this health crisis issue in the globe, where people have got united to fight against the pandemic COVID- 19 virus, few from the different business backgrounds are taking full advantage of the situation and making money three times higher.
As per reports, many vegetable vendors have increased the prices of vegetables three times more following which the Islanders are forced to buy the vegetables by paying through their nose.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, a prominent businessman of the Island, Mr. Nazrul Islam said that there is no vegetable in the market, which cost below Rs 120, “how any middle-class family will afford for vegetables?” questioned Mr. Nazrul.
“If we ask the vegetable vendors that why so costly, they reply that if you want to purchase, you can, otherwise you are free to leave,” alleged Mr. Nazrul.
Islanders allege that no proper control by the authorities that too during this period of time is the reason behind such an uncontrolled rise in vegetable prices.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted the Director, Civil Supplies, Dr. Navlendra Kumar Singh, in this regard, he said that till now the department has not received any such complaints from the consumers.
“As this case has been highlighted now, we will immediately do a routine check-up in the market by sending our inspectors and if any vegetable vendor found doing so, strict action will be taken against him/ her,” Dr. Singh added.

Every vegetable shop owner in the city behaving same, even they say “mainland se ship nahi ayega le lo aur dam badega”.
No action on this people, very sad.
