Port Blair, Mar 13: The management Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences, Port Blair has constituted a committee to investigate into the circumstances which resulted in recent bus accident, in which 35 ANIIMS students escaped narrowly.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha today, Dr. A.K. Mandal MD, PhD, Director, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute Medical Science (ANIIMS) said that after learning about the incident and after meeting the Vehicle In-charge, Chief Warden, Student Committee Councilor and caretaker of the college, they have observed that the incident could have taken a disastrous shape and hence, the ANIIMS management has formed a committee to thoroughly investigate the matter.
“Once the committee submits the report, we will file a complaint with the Transport Authority Department,” said Dr. A. K. Mandal.
He later clarified that earlier for the transportation of students ANIIMS used Private Buses but because of several complaints by the students about rash driving, leakage in the roof of the bus etc, ANIIMS discontinued the private bus and shifted to the STS buses.
“We never received any complaints either from parents or from the students about the problems on the bus currently catering to them, hence, never took any call in this regard,” the Director ANIIMS added.
The parents of the students of ANIIMS are now demanding the ANIIMS authorities to speed up the process and immediately change the Bus, which is currently being used to transport ANIIMS students.
