Port Blair, Apr 06: The Panchayati Raj institute Members and General Public of Baratang region have raised serious concerns over the fact that the Primary Health Centre of Baratang is running without a single ambulance since last 20 days.
The Primary Health Centre Baratang commands special significance because of the fact that it is close to Middle Strait Jarawa Outpost and during any kind of accident in ATR, inside or outside tribal reserve area, the PHC Baratang is mostly the first respondent. In most of the cases, injured passengers are taken to PHC Baratang first and from there serious patients are rushed to Port Blair via Ambulance through ATR.
Under these circumstances absence of an ambulance in the Primary Health Centre is a serious issue.
The Zilla Parishad Member of Baratang region Mr Alagar Swami has taken up this matter with the Director of Health Services today.
Later talking to Andaman Sheekha, the Zilla Parishad member said that he has taken up this matter with the Director of Health Services, who has reportedly assured him that immediate action will be taken in this regard.
The Zilla Parishad member has also raised serious concern over the fact that due to absence of a clerical staffs in PHC Baratang, a Safai Karamchari has been doing all official works of the Primary Health Centre since last one year.
“Baratang PHC is the closest PHC of Middle Andaman for South Andaman region and if this is the situation in this PHC, one can imagine what would be the condition in other PHCs,” the Zilla Parishad Member said.
