Port Blair, June 18: For the second time within a fortnight, the low lying areas of Rangat, Particularly Dasarthpur, Ladai Basti, Sitapur and Sabari witnessed extensive flooding due to very heavy rains compounded by high tide conditions. The Fire Brigade with its full strength of 20 officers and men again came to the rescue of the trapped residents and evacuated 59 persons, including 35 women and children from the flood affected areas. Local police officials actively helped Fire Brigade staff in the rescue operations.
The rescue operation started at around 1130 AM and was carried on uptill 3:30 PM and in these 4 hours, multiple rescue and evacuation operation were carried out by the Fire Brigade till the last person was brought to safety.
“Citizens are requested to call Fire Brigade in case of any fire or other contingency on the toll free No. “101” or “100”,” a release from CFO said here today.
