Port Blair, May 07: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, Pradesh Congress Committee Andaman & Nicobrar Islands in a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has requested for enhancement of salaries of MGNREGA staff.
Mr. Sharma in his letter stated that Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act is the flagship programme of Ministry of Rural Development, Govt, of India and for successful implementation of any poverty alleviation programme, the role skilled manpower involved in implementation of the schemes at the grassroots level is of paramount importance.
“The MGNREGA staffs at grass root level viz. Programme Officers, Assistant Engineers, Accountants, Technical Assistant, Data Entry Operators and Gram Rozgar Sevaks appointed on contract bases are rendering valuable service in successful implementation of the scheme in the Island,” Mr. Sharma said in his letter.
Earlier a delegation of MGNREGA staff had met the President, Pradesh Congress Committee and placed their grievances before him.
