Port Blair, Apr 26: The Indian Railway would set up a passenger reservation centre at Diglipur-the fourth passengers reservation system set up by Railways in Andaman Nicobar Islands. Already one computerized reservation centre is functioning in Port Blair and another one at Nicobar. The third one would be set-up in defence area the fourth PRS would be set up at Diglipur. This would help promotion of tourism and benefit the Islanders.
The matter of opening up of one more PRS in A&N Islands at Diglipur was discussed in a meeting by the Additional Member (Tour isrn and Catering)/Railway board Shri Satya Prakash with Secretary (Tourism).
During the meeting the Railway officials further said that the Islanders would like to have knowledge of tourist trains like Bharat Darshan etc. being run by IRCTC and Indian Railway. IRCTC can have a tourism counter or a kiosk in tourism offices of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Even in PRS offices at Port Blair and Nicobar, IRCTC can provide a kiosk, which can have arrangement for information on tourism activities, special trains, luxury trains and other tourist packages apart from PNR enquiries and fare/accommodation enquiries.
Further, due to bad weather conditions and other reasons, sometimes there ‘is cancellation of flights and passengers are not able to reach the station for start of their journeys. No refund facility is available in such circumstances in PRS at Port Blair. Similarly, there are, sometimes technical failures but refund is not granted to passengers. It was assured in the meeting that these issues will be looked into by CCM/Eastern Railway.
