Port Blair, Oct 16: To commemorate the 85th Birth Anniversary of former President of India Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Homescience Departmet of JNRM in collaboration with Yuvasakthi (NGO), Port Blair organized a State Level Seminar on Dr Abdul Kalam’s Role on Societal Transformation for turning Vision 2020 into Reality on 15th October 2015 in the Seminar Room.
The Chief Guest Smt. Sheela Singh, Chairperson , PBMC while addressing the audience in the inauguration ceremony, She shared how Kalam wanted a Corruption free Government Machinery in India. She also quoted reference from Dr Kalam books and literary works through which she got inspiration for being a leader to serve the society.
Shri V Ponraj, Adviser to Dr APJ Abdul Kalam delivered a keynote address through electronic mode and congratulated JNRM for this initiative. While addressing he shared his two decade association with Kalam and wanted JNRM to be an Institution of fullfledged as per the vision of Dr Kalam to serve the Islands.
The Guest of Honour, Dr.A.Velmurugan, Senior Scientist, CIARI, spoke on his experience in ISRO and his discussion with Dr Kalam. He also quoted the most liked couplet of Kalam from Tirukkural, a Tamil Literature.
Dr. N. Francis Xavier, Principal, JNRM while addressing the gathering he recollected Dr Kalam’s visit to Islands during post tsunami and how swift he was in helping the people. He also added that he raised a question regarding his experience in the fighter Jet, to Dr Kalam during his visit to Andaman, for which Dr Kalam replied he wanted to go further faster.
Shri.K.Venkatesan, HOD Homescience and coordinator of the seminar recollected his association with Dr Kalam and how he was particular in Technology for Rural Development. He shared the quantum of love Dr Kalam was having towards Andaman and Nicobar People and requested the PBMC Chairperson to name a road after Dr Abdul Kalam in Port Blair. Followed by he administered Ten Points oath of Dr Kalam to Students.
Later an Exhibition of Dr Kalam’s life was inaugurated by Dr Francis Xavier and Dr Velmurugranm which exhibited rare photographs collected by Shri K.Venkatesan from Dr.Kalam’s residence alongwith the posters prepared by the students during the poster competition.
Altogether 12 members presented papers during the seminar. Smt.Nidhi Katiyar, Assistant Professor, Department of Homescience, welcomed the gathering. The programme ended with vote of thanks proposed by Smt. Nidhi Shekhawat, Assistant Professor, Department of Homescience, JNRM.
