No Compensation yet for tsunami submerged land
Port Blair, Apr 12: The Gram Sudhar Sangam of Stewart Gunj is going to organise a dharna infornt of Secretariat on19 April 2012demanding early release of compensation for tsunami submerged land. Fuming villagers of South Andaman, whose land got submerged under sea water, after 2004 Tsunami Day, have been demanding for compensation since last eight years.
In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor the Secretary of Gram Sudhar Sangam of Stewart Gunj, Mr. Rajesh Kumar Lal today said that the ministry had also allotted an amount of Rs 130.35 Crores for meeting the expenditure.
“We do not know whether with or without the knowledge of your Excellency, the said amount has been spent for other purpose. Above all no fresh allotment of fund is kept in the BE for 2012 – 13. The Government of Bureaucrats are forcing the farmers for suicide,” Lal added.
He said that the farmers held a meeting on11/04/2012to decide further course of agitation. “To begin with we proposed to stage a Dharna in front of Secretariat, Port Blair from19th April, 2012,” Lal said.
