Mayabunder
Port Blair, Jan 21: In the context of 39th Coast Guard raising day, the Indian Coast Guard Station Mayabunder conducted a walkathon on 21 Jan 15 to spread the message of “CLEAN AND GREEN ISLANDS” among the local populace along with volunteers of NCC cadets of MGG College & Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School Mayabunder.
The walk was flagged off by the chief guest of the event Shri Anisha Kalkoor, IFS, DFO (Mayabunder) at 0730 hrs from Mayabunder PBM Jetty. The team treaded along all vantage points of the town; passing by Port Control, DFO Office, DC Office, Police Station, Tel Exchange, Market, Residential area, Panchayat Samiti Office, Dhobidera, Danapur, Rampur enroute and concluded at 0900 hrs at Coast Guard Station Mayabunder. The participants flashed colourful placards with messages on the subject and also voiced many slogans on ‘Clean Mayabunder Green Mayabunder’ all along the route. All the participants displayed great fervour and energy along the entire distance. 45 School Children & NCC cadets participated in this walkathon along with Coast Guard Mayabunder Staff. The walkathon is a long way in gracing awareness on cleanliness & maintaining our environment clean.
On conclusion of the walkathon, the Station Commander complimented and thanked all the volunteers and participants who made this event a success in a grand manner.

On seeing the enthusiasm of the team, he added that such public and social awareness programmes will be conducted more often in future for the betterment of islands and to ensure cordial and fruitful relationships with the local neighbours.
