Port Blair, Nov 28: Coastal Security is being taken very seriously by security forces across India but it seems that in Andaman and Nicobar Islands things are other way round.
According to information available with Andaman Sheekha none of the 23 CCTV cameras of Haddo Wharf region is operational since last 18 days.
According to sources, there are nearly 23 CCTV cameras at Haddo Wharf area out of which 13 are hi-tech moving cameras while rest 10 are fixed cameras. These cameras have been placed in strategic locations so that an eye can be kept on movement, in every corner of the entire area.
Not only Haddo Wharf sources told Andaman Sheekha that with these hi-tech camera, with very high zoom, CISF can keep an eye upto Bambooflat and Ross and detect any suspicious movement of vessels in that area and intimate PMF as Coast Guard.
Sources told Andaman Sheekha that these CCTV Cameras are connected to hard disk which can store footage upto 30 days, which can be very crucial proof in case of any crisis.
But at present CISF is unable to keep an eye over the area as the PMB has kept the CCTV cameras off.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted the Port Management Board, the Chief Port Administrator Mr Jyothi Giridhara Rao, said that due to some faults in Air Conditioners the Cameras have been kept off. He assured that the AC will be repaired soon and CCTV Cameras will be back in Service.
