Port Blair, Nov 13: Shri M.Arumugam, Chairperson, PBMC take up the issue of creation of posts of Work Charged Mazdoor and Sanitary Mazdoors in the Port Blair Municipal Council with the Lt. Governor. In his letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, he emphasized to create 150 posts of Work Charged Mazdoors to strengthen works section of the council to undertake various developmental activities viz. footpaths, retaining wall, drains, toilet blocks resurfacing of roads community halls etc. by site offices under works section of this Council for the benefits of general public for which manpower is required as the present strength of work charged mazdoors finds it very difficult to complete the task on daily basis.
The Chairperson also requested the Lt. Governor to create 100 posts of Sanitary Mazdoors as the present strength of sanitary workers are not sufficient to complete the daily routine works. In addition to the daily routine works, the council is planning to organize Cleanliness Awareness Abhiyan implemented by Prime Minister of India. Moreover, in sanitary section, implementation of Solid Waste Management project which is a major tasks of the council is also pending for want of manpower. Under this project sanitary section is conducting various programmes and general awareness campaign in almost all the wards to educate the people to keep their surrounding neat and clean. But due to shortage of regular staff the council finds difficult to achieve the goal.
