Port Blair, Jan 06: In order to share the resp of environment preservation and to establish a rapport among the locals by winning their hearts & minds, a beach clean-up drive was undertaken by 108 Mountain Brigade at Chiriya Tapu on 06 Jan 2012 in collaboration with PBMC. A total of approx. 400 Army personnel participated in the clean-up drive which was undertaken as part of the three week Army Day celebrations to commemorate the 64th Army Day. The clean-up drive was flagged off at 0700 hrs by Brig Balwinder Singh, VSM, Commander 108 Mountain Brigade. In order to maintain the serene & scenic beauty of the shores of Chiriya Tapu, approx one Ton of disposable wastes including hundreds of empty water bottle & plastic bags was removed from the site. Senior Sanitary Officer of PBMC, Mr Abdul Saleem, Secy PBMC Mr Rakesh Bali and representatives of the forest department were also present at the site for guidance & interaction over a cup of tea.
