Diglipur, July 10: Fish prices soaring sky high at Diglipur, leaving Islanders and fish lover totally disappointed. Although the Administration is trying hard to control the prices but all such efforts are going in vain due to nexus between fishermen groups.
In last two years two meetings were conducted by Assistant Commissioner of Diglipur where the fishermen and the administration agreed on a particular price list for fishes.
After that rates were displayed on the huge boards at Fish bazaar of Diglipur but sadly no one follows the rates.
The rates displayed over the board are never followed and selling rates are more than 50% of displayed rates on the rate board.
At present fish prices fluctuate as per the catch of the fish. But it was earlier agreed that it should not go beyond the rates displayed on the board. Many believe that export of the local fish to Port Blair also escalates the price at Diglipur.
The people complained that there are some middlemen sitting in the market who are not actually fishermen they just buy the fish in whole sale rate and sell them at a higher price at Diglipur and Port Blair.
Concerned officials of Administration were never found checking the prices in the market, one buyer alleged. Hope someday the Tehsildar who is supposed to be in charge of the price rise check, will find time to inspect the Fish Market of Diglipur and drive away the Middlemen.
