Port Blair, May 11: In a surprise checking carried out by a joint team comprising of Traffic Police and Civil Supplies Department led by Dy.SP(Traffic) M.A.Naushad and Asst. Dir. (Weights & Measures) Shri Rajesh Kumar at Mohanpura and Bhatu Basti areas on Friday (9th May), 39 Auto Rickshaws were found defaulters in getting their fare meters stamped. As such their fare meters have been seized.
Besides, during the current year the Traffic Police have challaned 282 auto rickshaws for plying without operating fare meters, which is a violation of A&N Motor Vehicle Rules.
The joint team shall continue to conduct surprise checks. The auto rickshaws which are found to be repeated offenders shall be liable for cancellation of their route permit.
