Port Blair, Mar 18: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration is facing heat from almost all corners of local society, on water and power crisis. Presently, entire South Andaman region is getting water for only half-an hour, once in three days and experiencing severe power cut 2 hours in day time as well as in night hours, daily.
Protesting against this power and water crisis not the Bharatiya Janta Party has called for ‘Raj Niwas Gherao’ on March 19, 2012 from 10 AM to 2 PM.
“This will be peaceful protest against unjustified curtailment in water supply and power cuts, which are forced on us,” Mr. R Mohan the president of BJP’s A & N Unit told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ today.
The BJP, Member of Parliament, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray is also join the protest.
On Friday a large number of general public had brought out a peaceful candle light march at Port Blair against the load shedding.
However the Administration has already assured people of A & N Islands that corrective measures have been taken by Administration and have already assured the duration of load shedding will reduced soon.
“We have spoken to Surya Chakra Power Plant representative, who has assured us that the first D.G set will require spare parts for which purchase formalities will take some months, and for the second DG sets, they will make maximum efforts to get it operational somehow by March, 2012. On this, the power cuts of two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening should be reduced to one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening on rotational basis,” Principal Secretary (Power) of A & N Administration, Mr. Jalaj Srivastava told reporters on Friday.
