Billyground, Nov 18: Acute shortage of salt and potato has been reported from the Billyground area of Middle Andaman region. Potatoes, which were Rs. 40 a few days back, are being sold by @ Rs. 80 to Rs. 90 per kg, it has been learnt.
Not only this, none of the shops in Billyground has Salt, leaving public running from pillar to post in search of Salt.
“We believe that the shop owners have increased the rate of potato in Billyground as soon as they came to know about the increasing rate of Potato in Mainland and Port Blair. Although they are selling old stock of potato but they are charging present market rate, which is cheating,” said a villager of Billyground area.
The villager added that the shop owners are neither able to give them salt nor are able to answer the reasons behind non-availability of salt to public.
