Port Blair, Sept 29: The Hindi week celebration by Chetana concluded on Saturday at Port Blair. Delivering valedictory address at the function held at Tagore Government College of Education , Port Blair, the Director General of Police, Sudhir Yadav called upon the Non-governmental social organisations to play vital role in eradicating the social evils by generating ample awareness among the different sections of the population. He said the islands predominantly face the social problems of Domestic violence, Alcoholism and Suicide attempts which cannot be solved by the police force alone, but needs the wholehearted support of the people at all levels. He categorically stated that active support of the people to tackle these problems can be achieved only through awareness generation and proper counselling with the people concerned by the Voluntary Social Service Organisations like Chetana.
Complimenting the efforts of Chetana in promoting usage of Hindi among students community, he said over the years Hindi witnessed significant development in its usage across the country through the concerted efforts by the government and all concerned. Hindi is a more scientific language and got enriched with a lot of words from almost all the Indian languages and thereby facilitating its learning and usage easier and more simplified manner, he added. He also stated that there is nothing wrong in using the common English words and words from other languages in spoken and written Hindi instead of making attempts to use the unfamiliar Pure Hindi words, so as to facilitate and improve its usage at all levels.
On the occasion, the DGP, Sudhir Yadav presented the certificates and cash prizes to the winners of Elocution, Essay and Poetry writing contests in Hindi. He also felicitated the Coordinators of the programme, Dr N Lakshmi, JNRM, Dr Ram Kripal Tiwari from TGCE and Smt Rita Banerji from DIET with special certificates.
Responding to the call made by the DGP for the active role by Social organisations in social issues, the General Secretary , Chetana, DVS Deep informed that Chetana organised various contests for the students from time to time to make them aware of the role played by Chetana in tackling the social issues and thereby seeking their support and active participation in its social awareness activites.
Dr Iqbal Ahmed, Principal, JNRM presided over the programme. He dwelt at length on the role of Hindi as common link language in the country and its progress over the years. The Principal of TGCE, Dr J D Singh also spoke on the occasion. Dr Shashi Kumar, Associate Professor of Hindi, JNRM gave a lecture on critical aspects of popularizing and promoting the usage of Hindi as common communication language among the non hindi speaking people.
Earlier, I A Khan, Member, Monitoring Committee, Chetana welcomed the gathering, while the Vice President of Chetana, Shrada Ram proposed vote of thanks. A large number of students and volunteers participated in the programme.
