Rangat, Sep 26: On 5th February 2012, the main news in Administration’s official daily, The Daily Telegrams was placed very prominently with a number of photos of former Lt. Governor and caption ‘LG Inaugurates New Bus Terminus at Rangat’.
The inauguration function was organized at Rangat on 4th September 2012 in a grand scale, sadly after nearly one year the Bus Terminus now wears a pathetic look.
After receiving complaints, when Andaman Sheekha team reached the Bus Terminus it was found that presently the condition of the new bus terminus at Rangat is annoying and all the comfort that the Govt. wanted to provide to its citizens, have now become a constant source of discomfort, making the Bus Terminus unfit for Public Service.
The floor tiles are broken in various places the false ceiling is falling apart. Often pieces of the false ceiling fall on passengers and children.
The platform for the bus terminus has developed several cracks in which water accumulates. Not only this, due to poor foundation works, the concrete floor of the Bus Terminus Campus have developed waves where water gets accumulated even after a brief spell of rain.
It has also been found that the officials of the Bus Terminus at present do not switch on the fans and lights due to leakages in roofs everywhere, which cause short circuit. Due to leakages in the roof the new Bus Terminus now looks like an open air Amphitheatre.
It’s just one and a half years since the bus stand was inaugurated and a huge amount of public money was invested in developing the infrastructure. The building now appears old, weak and shabby, which confirms nothing but open use of sub-standard materials in the construction works.
Andaman Sheekha contacted a senior officer of the Bus Terminus to know about the reason behind such pathetic condition of the Bus Terminus. He told Andaman Sheekha that they have reported about this to APWD several times and requested for immediate repairing works but the APWD is not responding.
The residents of the area are now demanding an inquiry into the matter and demand stringent action against the contractors and Engineers, who were overseeing the project.
Residents of Rangat also urge the Lt. Governor to order a probe to find out how such a massive building has lost all its strength in just about one year.
