Port Blair, Mar 01: Yet another incident of a Human Safari has been reported from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which has put Andaman’s Police Department in a fix.
Two dailies of Andaman and Nicobar Islands today reported about yet another incident of Human Safari in which, a handful of people, known to be relatives of a senior police officer were allegedly escorted to Tirur village of South Andaman by police personnel, to interact with Jarawa tribe.
According to the reports at Tirur Village these people were allowed to interact with Jarawa Tribes illegally, under supervision of police officials.
Tirur Village of South Andaman is located adjacent to Jarawa Reserve Forest where chances of locating a Jarawa Tribe in its most primitive form always remain high.
These reports have created a ripple in Andaman Administration.
According to highly placed sources, the Director General of Police has already asked for a report in this regard.
“This issue is now in knowledge of Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police and issue is being looked into,” SBS Tyagi the Superintendent of Police of South Andaman told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ today.
Meanwhile, Search an NGO working for Jarawa in Andaman and Nicobar Islands have also raised strong objection in this regard.
“If Administration doesn’t deal with Jarawa Tourism seriously, nothing is going to change. If concerned officers themselves are involved in Human Safari what we can expect from General Pubic and tourist,” Denis Giles, Director of Search told Andaman Sheekha today.
In two previous cases of Human Safari, Andaman and Nicobar Police has already arrested three people, including one Police Constable. Besides this another police constable has already been placed under suspension.
