Mayabunder, Feb 26: Today marked an important day for the students of MGG College, Mayabunder, as the lone Member of Parliament from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands arrived via helicopter from Port Blair at approximately 9.30 AM. Upon his arrival at the Mayabunder Helipad, the MP was accompanied by Mr. Sushant Padha, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman, as he proceeded to the college at the invitation of the student body.
Upon reaching the college premises, the principal warmly welcomed both the MP and the Deputy Commissioner as a large gathering of students and college staff assembled in the auditorium for the special occasion. The MP commenced his address by expressing his commitment to the educational development of the institution and opened the floor for constructive dialogue between himself and the students concerning the future of their college.
A significant topic of discussion arose regarding the establishment of a Deemed University versus a Central University. In a united show of support for their preferences, the students vocally opposed the establishment of a Deemed University, emphatically stating their desire for a Central University to be established in the region.
Deputy Commissioner Mr. Sushant Padha further engaged with the students, addressing their grievances and providing valuable advice to support their educational ambitions. His motivational words resonated positively with the students, fueling their aspirations for a brighter future while highlighting the importance of academic commitment.
Following the session, the Deputy Commissioner returned to his office for an urgent meeting. However, on the request of the students, the MP took time to inspect the college playground, both boys’ and girls’ hostels, and conversed with the hostel residents regarding their living conditions. To his dismay, the MP noted the poor state of the hostel kitchen and toilet facilities. Concerned with the students’ living environment, he discussed the matter with the principal, advocating for immediate action to rectify these issues.
Students expressed their grievances about inadequate lighting in the boys’ hostel dining hall, which hindered their ability to dine properly at night. Additionally, the MGG College community proposed the need for an additional bus and two Reverse Osmosis plants, one to be situated in the auditorium and the other at the college main building, to be funded from the MP’s Local Area Development (LAD) Fund. The MP assured the students that he would do everything within his power to meet these requests.
Concluding his visit, the MP learned that the current principal had recently taken charge and noted some commendable initiatives already under consideration, which he praised.
The students expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the MP for making the time to address their concerns and assuring them that their voices were heard. His visit not only instilled hope but also reinforced the community’s belief in development and support for their educational needs.
