Sri Vijayapuram, Feb 26: Mr. N. K. Udhaya Kumar, State General Secretary (Organisation) of Hindu Rashtra Shakti, A&N Islands, and former Chairperson of SVPMC, has submitted a formal grievance to the Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration regarding the prolonged non-functioning of street lights and the worsening law and order situation in Ward No. 24, Sri Vijayapuram.
In his representation, Mr. Udhaya Kumar highlighted that street lights across Ward No. 24 have remained largely non-functional for over two months, leading to serious safety concerns for residents. He stated that the continued administrative inaction has turned the locality into a potential hazard zone, causing inconvenience to senior citizens, working women, and daily commuters.
He further pointed out that the area opposite the main gate of the Mahindra showroom has been particularly affected, with the street light pole at the location remaining defunct for several months. According to him, the darkness in the area has encouraged unknown and suspicious individuals to gather there late at night, creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among nearby residents.
On behalf of the residents of Ward No. 24, Mr. Udhaya Kumar has sought the Chief Secretary’s immediate intervention. He has requested that the Executive Engineer (Electricity) and the Municipal Commissioner be directed to restore all non-functional street lights in the ward without further delay. He has also urged that the local police station be instructed to intensify night patrolling in the affected area to curb anti-social activities and restore public confidence.
Expressing hope for swift administrative action, he appealed to the authorities to treat the matter with urgency and ensure prompt redressal in the interest of public safety and civic well-being.
