
Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 15: The vibrant spirit of theatre continued to captivate audiences on the second day of the ongoing Theatre Festival, as the play ‘Mai Re Main Ka Se Kahun’ was staged at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Auditorium, SVPMC, before an appreciative gathering. Organised by the Directorate of Art & Culture, A&N Administration, in collaboration with the National School of Drama, the three-day festival forms part of the 25th Bharat Rang Mahotsav – the International Theatre Festival of India of NSD, New Delhi. The prestigious event has brought acclaimed productions and enriching theatrical experiences to the Islands.
‘Mai Re Main Ka Se Kahun’, written by Vijaydan Detha and directed by Ajay Kumar, is a poignant theatrical presentation that delves into the silent suffering of a woman constrained by rigid social norms. Set against a rural backdrop, the play explores themes of patriarchy, emotional isolation and the yearning for self-expression. The sharp dialogues, and energetic performances by the cast kept the gathering thoroughly engaged throughout the evening. Organised under the aegis of the National School of Drama theatre festival, the staging of ‘Mai Re Main Ka Se Kahun’ added vibrancy and cultural richness to the Islands’ performing arts calendar.
Earlier, Chief of the Repertory Company, NSD, Mr. RK Singh gave a brief about the play ‘Mai Re Main Ka Se Kahun’. The performance witnessed an enthusiastic turnout. Through this 3-days Theatre Festival which features captivating plays in Hindi performed by the NSD Repertory Company from New Delhi showcases the rich diversity of Indian theatre.
On February 15, the play ‘Babuji’, written by Mithileshwar, adapted by Vibhanshu Vaibhav, and directed by Rajesh Singh, was staged. This collaboration highlights the commitment of both organisations to promote cultural exchange and artistic excellence in remote regions like the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
