
Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 07: Major General Ajay Feroze Shah assumed the role of Chief of Staff, Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC) on 07 January 2026, taking over from Rear Admiral Biplab Hota, Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM).
Commissioned into 14th Battalion, The Brigade of the Guards in June 1991, the General Officer was serving as Major General General Staff Training (MGGS Trg) (Bravo) at Headquarters Army Training Command (HQ ARTRAC) prior to this appointment.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, he is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Higher Command Course (HCC) and National Defence College (NDC) at the South African National Defence College.
The General Officer has served across diverse operational environments including glaciers, Counter Insurgency Operations (CI Ops), Line of Control (LC) and desert sector. His command assignments include the Mobile Reserve Unit with United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), a Reconnaissance and Support Battalion, a Corps Reserve Infantry Brigade and a Mountain Division. His key staff appointments include General Staff Officer Grade One (GSO-1), Assistant Military Secretary (AMS), Colonel General Staff (Equipment), Military Assistant (MA) to General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Army Training Command, Colonel General Staff of an Infantry Division and Brigadier General Staff (BGS) of a Strike Corps.
He is a recipient of the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Commendation Card (twice) and the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Commendation Card (thrice).
With wide-ranging operational and staff experience, Major General Ajay Feroze Shah is expected to contribute significantly towards strengthening joint planning, coordination and operational effectiveness of this unique Joint Services Command.
