Sri Vijaya Puram Sep 11: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, the Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, on the basis of demands and grievances raised by the villagers under Nilambur Gram Panchayat, Baratang Island has taken up the matter with the Health Department for the construction of a new Health & Wellness Centre at Jarawa Creek, Baratang at an estimate cost of Rs.2.20 Cr as per IPHS norms.
Earlier, a proposal amounting to Rs. 71.12 lakhs were placed for the repair/reconstruction of the existing Sub-Centre at Jarawa Creek. However, the MP, while representing the villagers, pointed out that repairing or reconstructing the Sub-Centre would not serve its purpose as the present centre is located on a hillock, causing great inconvenience to patients, especially senior citizens, in accessing healthcare services.
Considering the valuable suggestion of the MP and the genuine difficulties faced by the local population, the Health Department has informed that the proposal of MP for a new Health & Wellness Centre has been included in the Action Plan for 2025–2026. The construction work will be taken up by the APWD, subject to fund availability.
On behalf of the villagers of Nilambur Gram Panchayat, the Hon’ble MP has conveyed his gratitude to the A&N Administration for addressing and resolving this long-pending grievance of the people of Nilambur, Jarawa Creek, Baratang.
