
Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr. 3: A two-day workshop-cum-training programme on ‘Records Management’ for the designated Departmental Records Officers got underway today in the Auditorium Hall of Tagore Govt. College of Education (TGCE), Sri Vijaya Puram. Being organised by A&N Archives of A & N Administration in association with the National Archives of India, New Delhi, the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, as the chief guest inaugurated the workshop-cum-training by lighting the traditional oil lamp.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Secretary, expressed happiness for the conduct of the training and stated that well-managed records are easily accessible, allowing for quick access to information and better decision-making, the Chief Secretary added.
The Chief Secretary said, for the better functioning of the Departments, it is essential to have a proper Record Management System and also a better retrieval mechanism, so that required document can be retrieved in a short notice. He further underlined the need for organizing exposure visits for officials from A&N Administration to National Archives, New Delhi to have a first-hand knowledge on how old records are maintained, preserved and also about its retrieval procedures, as these documents are very important for the progress of our society.
In her address, the Secretary, Archives, A & N Administration, Ms. Smitha. R, IAS said that this training programme is being held for two days which will further strengthen the Departments to preserve our heritage and our records. She further stated that, designated Record Officers from different Departments under A&N Administration are attending this training with enthusiasm and expressed hope that they will benefit immensely from this training and also the officials will be able to maintain and preserve the records well.
Briefing about the training programme, the Deputy Director, National Archives of India, New Delhi, Shri Syed Farid Ahmed informed that the National Archives has now started two days capsule courses for various Departments all over the country from the earlier five days training programmes. During this workshop, the Resource Persons from National Archives will interact with the participants on implementation of Public Record Act & Rules, besides discussing the retention schedule appraisal, works related to digitization and e-Office concerns. The other Faculty Members of the training include the Assistant Director, Shri Udey Shanker and Dr. Sanjeev Thingam, Archivist from National Archives of India, New Delhi. The inaugural function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by the AIC, A&N Archives, Shri S.K.Dubey.
