Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 7: Mr. Prakash Adhikari, Zilla Parishad Member of Guptapara, recently met the Chief Secretary and Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, to discuss key developmental issues concerning Guptapara and Wandoor Panchayat.
On the evening of February 4, 2025, Mr. Adhikari attended a meeting in the chamber of the Chief Secretary, where various concerns related to local governance and public infrastructure were discussed. He described the meeting as “healthy and positive,” adding that the Chief Secretary assured him that the issues raised would be taken up with the respective line departments for swift resolution.
Following the discussion, Mr. Adhikari expressed optimism about the future of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands under the guidance of the Chief Secretary, highlighting the administration’s commitment to progress.
Continuing his efforts, Mr. Adhikari met with the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, on February 5, 2025, to follow up on long-standing demands of the local community.
In a significant development, he expressed gratitude to the Chief Secretary, Deputy Commissioner, and Assistant Commissioner (Settlements) for addressing a pressing need—allocating land for a graveyard, burial ground, and a separate site for waste segregation.
The 1949 settlements of Manglutan, Guptapara, and surrounding areas, often referred to as a “Mini India” due to their diverse communities, have long faced difficulties due to the absence of a designated space for burial and waste management. The region is home to people from various backgrounds, including Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Christian, and Ranchi communities, all of whom have struggled with these essential civic needs for years.
“This long-awaited allocation is a major relief for our community,” said Mr. Adhikari. “Myself, along with my PRI team and all the villagers, extend our sincere appreciation to the administration for making this possible.”
