Sri Vujaya Puram, Nov 13: Andaman Avians Club (AAC) successfully concluded ANI Bird Week 3.0, a week-long celebration commemorating the 128th birth anniversary of the renowned ornithologist, Dr. Salim Ali. The event, held from November 6th to 12th, 2024, was a testament to the club’s dedication to bird conservation and awareness.
The week-long festivities included a diverse range of activities:
* Documentary Screening: A captivating documentary on Dr. Salim Ali and the avian wonders of the Andaman Islands by Mr. Vinay K Jindal was screened at GDMS Primary School, Port Blair by D. Kishore Kumar
* Expert Talks: Our expert birders Bivash Kirtania and D. Sekhar, delivered insightful talks on bird ecology and behavior at CG Public School, Campbell Bay, and GSSS, Middle Andaman, respectively.
* Citizen Science Initiative: Club members actively participated in a citizen science project, collecting valuable data on local bird populations, this activity was organised by G.Thikanna.
* Bird Walk: A guided bird walk was organized at the IRBn Campus by Mr. Ram Vikas and Mr. N. Moorthy, where participants had the opportunity to observe a variety of bird species and learn about their habitats.
* Online Webinar: An online webinar by Mr. Santanu Manna, in collaboration with Ebird India, Bird Count India, and Bird Watchers Society, provided insights into effective birdwatching techniques and data collection methods. The webinar was coorindated by Mr. Amrit Raha.
* Valedictory Function: The week-long celebration culminated in an online valedictory function, where Mr. Kishore Kumar, General Secretary and coordinator of ANI Bird Week 3.0, addressed the participants and thanked all involved for their contributions.
