Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 07: A three-day training program for Medical Officers was held from November 5-7, 2024, at AYUSH Hospital, Port Blair, aimed at strengthening medical expertise in diagnosing and managing elderly patients, underscoring the critical importance of specialized training in geriatric healthcare.
Over 21 Medical Officers from various health institutions across the islands actively took part in this enriching program, underscoring their dedication in improving healthcare outcomes for elderly.
The program began with an introductory address by Dr. Shiny Varghese, Joint Secretary (NPHCE), emphasizing the importance of the training in advancing medical knowledge.
Expert faculties from Departments of General Surgery, General Medicine, Community Medicine, Psychiatry, Orthopedics and Chest & TB GB Pant Hospital, ANIIMS led insightful sessions, featuring interactive discussions, case studies, and hands-on learning across a range of topics relevant to elderly care.
Topics covered included gastrointestinal and genitourinary disorders, common symptoms in the elderly, drug therapy, cardiovascular and psychiatric conditions, endocrine and nutritional issues, geriatric syndromes, malignancies, and musculoskeletal and respiratory disorders. Discussions also focused on comprehensive geriatric assessment, quality of life, and palliative care.
The program concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony led by Dr. Suja Antony, Director of Health Services, who expressed her appreciation for this impactful initiative.
