Humfrygunj, September 10: A Police Constable, stationed at PS Humfrygunj, has been reportedly assaulted by two individuals while he was on patrol duty in the Manjery area on Monday evening.
According to online FIR portal of A & N Police, on the evening of September 9, 2024, at around 4:00 PM, the Constable, Mr. Raja and fellow constable were assigned to patrol the area as part of security measures for the ongoing Ganesh Puja celebrations. They were on a motorcycle (Reg. No. AN01-D-0253), with PC Raja driving and other PC seated behind him.
At approximately 6:30 PM, the police jawans reached the vicinity of the Government Primary School in Manjery when they noticed a dark grey car parked suspiciously on the roadside. Sensing something unusual, the jawans approached the car, only to find two hefty men inside, who appeared visibly nervous upon seeing the policemen.
The officers, suspecting the presence of illegal items in the vehicle, questioned the men. The officers instructed the men to step out of the car and began searching the vehicle. However, the suspects resisted, attempting to prevent the officers from conducting a search.
During the search, one of the suspect became aggressive. Despite the threat, the officers continued their search, prompting one of the suspect to push PC Raja, causing him to fall out of the car. As a result, PC Raja sustained minor injuries to his back, and his uniform was torn in the scuffle.
The other PC immediately came to his colleague’s aid, but before the officers could apprehend the suspects, they quickly got back into the car and fled the scene at high speed.
Following the incident, PC Raja informed the SHO via phone and returned to the police station to file a formal complaint. Both officers have requested legal action against the suspects, identified as, Ettar Singh and Inderjeet Singh, for assaulting a police officer and obstructing their duties. As per last input both accused have been arrested by PS Humfrygunj in a swift action. Further information is awaited.
