Port Blair, Aug 20: In a moment of immense pride for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dr. Shobhika Shree, a distinguished medical doctor currently serving with the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO), has been selected as a contestant for the 16th season of the iconic quiz show “Kaun Banega Crorepati” (KBC). Her selection not only highlights her personal achievements but also shines a spotlight on the talent and potential emerging from these beautiful islands.
KBC, hosted by the legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, has been a cherished platform for showcasing knowledge and the inspiring stories of individuals from across India. Now entering its 16th season, the show continues to be a beacon of opportunity, allowing contestants to achieve national recognition. Dr. Shree’s participation in this season is a testament to the brilliance that resides in even the most remote corners of the country.
Dr. Shree’s journey to KBC has been marked by dedication, perseverance, and a deep commitment to her roots. As a member of the first batch of students at ANIMS (Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences), she made history by becoming the first person from the islands to clear the UPSC Combined Medical Services Examination. Her early career saw her serving in the remote location of Rangat, in North and Middle Andaman, where she worked tirelessly as a medical officer, bringing essential healthcare services to communities that often struggle with access to quality medical care.
Her selection for KBC is not just a personal milestone but a collective triumph for the people of Andaman and Nicobar. Representing the islands on a national platform of this magnitude is a significant achievement, highlighting the region’s growing presence in the national consciousness. This moment of pride underscores the potential and talent thriving within the islands, which have long been celebrated for their natural beauty but are now gaining recognition for their human achievements as well.
Dr. Shree, who is also the daughter of Mr. Binu Kumar, a respected member of the police department, and Mrs. Sajitha, a devoted school teacher, has always been a source of inspiration within her community. Speaking about her selection, she shared, “When I received the call from the KBC team, I was overwhelmed with joy. It felt surreal to think that a girl from these remote islands could have the chance to be on such a grand stage. Clearing the written MCQ test and the video audition round was challenging, but each step brought me closer to this incredible opportunity. I’m filled with excitement as I prepare to head to Mumbai for the Fastest Finger First round and, hopefully, the hot seat. This journey is a dream come true, not just for me but for everyone who has supported me along the way.”
Her parents, bursting with pride, echoed her sentiments. Mr. Binu Kumar, her father, remarked, “Shobhika’s achievements have always made us proud, but this is something truly extraordinary. To see her reach this level, where she will represent Andaman and Nicobar on a national platform, is beyond anything we could have imagined. It’s a proud moment for our entire family and for the islands.”
Mrs. Sajitha, her mother, with tears of joy, added, “From a young age, Shobhika has always been determined and hardworking. Seeing her reach this stage, especially coming from our small island, is a testament to her dedication and to the endless possibilities that exist when one pursues their dreams. Our hearts are filled with joy and pride.”
Dr. Nitin, her husband, who has been a steadfast support, shared in the joy of her achievement, stating, “Shobhika’s passion for her work and her community has always amazed me. Her journey to KBC is just another example of her determination to break barriers and achieve great things. I know she will make us all proud as she represents our beloved Andaman and Nicobar Islands on this prestigious platform.”
For the people of Andaman and Nicobar, Dr. Shree’s presence on KBC is more than just an individual accomplishment—it’s a significant achievement for the entire community. Her journey from the serene shores of the islands to the bright lights of Mumbai on a national stage like KBC serves as a powerful reminder that dreams can indeed come true, no matter where one comes from. This opportunity to showcase her knowledge and story to millions of viewers across the country is not just a personal victory but a proud moment for the entire Andaman and Nicobar community, highlighting their spirit, resilience, and potential to the entire nation.
