Port Blair, July 09: In celebration of Learning Disability Week, the Composite Regional Centre (CRC) A&N Islands in collaboration with State Institute of Education, Shiksha Sadan, Port Blair successfully conducted a one-day workshop titled “Empowering Teachers to Support Students with Learning Disabilities” on 8th July 2024 at GSSS, Mohanpura. The workshop aimed to provide educators with the knowledge, skills, and strategies necessary to support students with learning disabilities effectively.The workshop brought together over 67 PSRT,PST, GTT and ICT instructors committed to enhancing educational outcomes for students with learning disabilities.
The event was inaugurated by Smti.Sangeeta Chand , Principal, State Institute of Education, who emphasized the importance of inclusive education and the role of teachers in fostering an environment where all students can thrive. In her speech, Mrs.Sangeeta Chand, Principal, SIE stated that it is the responsibility to ensure that every student receives the support and encouragement they need to succeed academically and personally. This workshop is a step towards equipping ourselves with the knowledge and tools to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Mrs.Sumithamol, Director, CRC A&N Islands welcomed the gathering. Mrs.Bhavani, Principal, GSSS, Mohanpura joined as special guest and Dr. D.Kondaiah, HOD, IED Cell, SIE and Mr.Raju, Coordinator, SIE also enlighten the session.
Mrs.Yogavathi Muthu.T, Special Educator cum Orientation and Mobility Instructor, CRC A&N delivered insightful sessions on Understanding Learning Disabilities: Causes, Types, and Identification,Utilizing Assistive Technologies to Enhance Learning & Creating an Inclusive Classroom Environment. The participants engaged in interactive workshops that provided hands-on experience with tools and techniques to support students with learning disabilities. These sessions encouraged collaborative learning and the sharing of best practices among educators.
Participants expressed their appreciation for the workshop, highlighting the practical knowledge and valuable resources they gained. “This workshop has equipped me with new strategies and tools to better support my students with learning disabilities.
The one-day workshop was a significant step towards empowering teachers to support students with learning disabilities. By providing educators with the necessary skills and knowledge, the event contributed to promoting inclusive education and ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed. The programme ended up with Vote of thanks delivered by Mr.Samueal Pitchai, BRP, DEO, South Andaman.
