Port Blair, Mar 06: The Panchayat & Municipal Elections 2022 will always be remembered for the delay of almost two years due to COVID-19 pandemic. Adding to the plight, low turnout of the voters, as per data available till 3.00 PM, has now become a major concern for all political parties.
Regarding today’s elections, Andaman Sheekha spoke to top leaders of major political parties in Andaman to know their views regarding the Panchayat & Municipal Elections 2022.
Mr. Rangalal Halder
President, ANTCC
We have full faith in the general public and we believe that we will win the election with a full majority. We have witnessed full enthusiasm amongst the public as well as party workers and we have full faith that people are with us.
There was no such major issue in the Islands regarding the voting and all arrangements made by the Administration were good, we got full support of the Administration and the Administration cooperated very well with everyone equally.
Mr. Ajay Bairagi
President, BJP, A & N State Unit
Today Islanders participated in voting and according to me, a large number of public who are BJP supporters have voted for us. “In this Municipal and Panchayat elections the victory will be ours, as the majority of Islanders are with us, with the Bharatiya Janata Party. We will win the election with a majority of votes.
The arrangements made by Administration and Police Department were excellent because of which the elections and voting of people in polling booths went very smoothly.
N Manikya Rao Yadav,
State President, TDP, A & N Islands
Today’s polling in Islands was not that good as we believe that the voting was less than 50%. Issues in EVM were also faced at some places due to which voting was delayed. A total of 1000 voters were supposed to vote at one Polling booth, but still, the voting was going on till late evening.
Also, names of many of the people eligible for voting were not on the voting list due to which many were not able to cast their valuable votes.
Mr. KG Das
Secretary, CPI (M)
I heard that today’s voting was less than 60%. Today I went around to some of the polling booths in Port Blair but didn’t find a huge rush. However, the administration made good arrangements and that is why there was no problem in voting.
