
Port Blair, Feb 23: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands ranked 15th Position in the Great Backyard Bird Count and Campus Bird Count 2022 in an International event.
GBBC & CBC is an event organized by Bird Count India and coordinated in this UT by the Andaman Avians Club Team. This year the event had very enthusiastic participation from club birders and many across the Islands.
During the 04 day event, participation of 25 bird watchers of Andaman Avians Club across the Islands had accumulated for a total of 45 Sites, surveyed and recorded 8186 individuals of 131 species.
Some important bird sightings were Eyebrowed Thrush, Blyth’s Flycatcher, Blue Eared Kingfisher, Andaman Wood Pigeon, Andaman, Black Baza, Black Bittern, Malayan Night Heron and many other endemic, resident & migrated species.
The top performing campuses were IRBn Campus, Port Mout, Chidyatapu Biological Park and Wild Grass Resort.
Mr. Amrit Raha from South Andaman, Mr. D. Sekhar from Middle Andaman and Mr. Ram Vikas from North Andaman District were the top birders. All these birders are members of the Andaman Avians Club.
The motive of this event was to make people more aware of the birds of Andaman and to spread awareness about their habitat conservation.
