Port Blair, Dec 12: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has thanked the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration, APWD and all other concerned agencies for completing the Rutland Water Supply Project, which is one of the most crucial and long awaited projects of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
With this, one of the long pending demands of people of Port Blair and surrounding areas will be fulfilled.
As it was announced earlier by APWD, once the project is commissioned, 6.70 MLD of fresh water will be made available daily from Rutland to Dhanikhari, which in turn will enhance the availability of water for Port Blair town in peak summer months.
The Member of Parliament had taken up the issue, regarding completing this project, on several occasions in the past with the Administration and also in 2019 and 2021 this matter was highlighted by him in Lok Sabha.
The Member of Parliament hoped that soon the project will be officially inaugurated and people of Port Blair as well as surrounding areas will reap the benefits of the Rutland Water Supply Project.
This project will not only bring huge relief for people of Port Blair and surrounding areas but also make sufficient water available for tourists and hence it will benefit the Tourism Industry immensely.
The Member of Parliament has requested the Lt. Governor to instruct the concerned department to supply water to residents of Port Blair and adjoining regions on a daily basis after commissioning of this project.
