Port Blair, May 28: Indian Coast Guard has apprehended two Myanmarese boats along with 22 Poachers off The Sisters Island during the afternoon hrs of 28 May 12. The poachers were sighted by CG Dornier aircraft captained by Asst Comdt AK Prathap. CG helicopter flown by Commandant (JG) S Ramesh and CGS C-145, under command of Commandant (JG) SR Nagendran were deployed to apprehend the poachers.
At 1145 hrs on 28 May, Coast Guard Dornier Aircraft on routine surveillance sortie reported sighting of two suspected Myanmarese boats off Passage Island.
On being sighted by the Dornier, the boats started fleeing towards easterly direction with max speed. On receipt of information, the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters deployed CG helicopter and Interceptor Boat C-145 for a sea air coordinated operation. The helicopter hovered over the first boat and directed them to stop.
C-145 was vectored by the helicopter towards the position of the boat. The boat along with 12 Myanmarese crews was apprehended at 1335 hrs by C-145. The helicopter then proceeded towards the second boat which was further two miles east of the first boat and stopped them from fleeing the area. Subsequently the second boat with 10 crews was also apprehended by C-145 at 1450 hrs. The apprehended boats along with crew have been brought to Port Blair for handing over to police authorities for further investigation. Quick response to the available inputs and sea-air coordinated action resulted in successful apprehension of the poachers.
