Port Blair, March 13: The last semi final match of the “Mahatma Gandhi Cup T10 Night Cricket league was played on Thursday. In the contest, Unity Group Ograbraj defeated NS IX by 21 runs
The final match of the tournament will be played between Unity Group Ograbraj and Ayush warriors on 14th March 2020 at 07:00 PM.
The tournament is being organized by Youth Club Ograbraj in association with Gram Panchayat Mithakhari and Regional Sports Council (RSC), South Andaman
A&N Police Cricket Team Reaches Final in T-20 Inter Department Cricket Tournament at Netaji Stadium
Port Blair, March 05: A&N Island Police Cricket team reaches the final in T-20 Inter Department Cricket Tournament by defeating Education Department by 33 runs. The tournament in which 11 teams are playing is being organized by Andaman Nicobar Cricket Association (ANCA) at Netaji Stadium.
After winning toss, batting first A&N Police set a target of 150 runs for the loss of 6 wickets off their 20 overs for the Education Department. Azharuddin from Police scored highest- 59 runs in 44 balls by hitting 5 fours & 2 sixes. The target of 150 runs could not be achieved and Education Department were bundled all out for 116 runs in 19.3 overs. Naushad from Education Department scored 32 runs. While bowling Rajesh Biswas from Police dented their batting by taking 3 wickets in an over.
A&N Police will play final on 08/03/2020 (Sunday) against the winner of second semi-final & emerged favourite team for the final. They had earlier defeated DSS, DHS, LIC teams in group stage before reaching semi-finals.
Education XI Cricket Team Enters Semifinal
Port Blair, Feb 03: Outstanding performance of Education XI cricket team in the ongoing Inter Departmental T20 Cricket tournament organized by Andaman Nicobar Cricket Association took the Education XI Cricket team to the Semifinals. Education XI defeated AC, Nancowrie in the first match played on 22nd February 2020, in the second match Education XI defeated Forest XI on 24th Feb’2020, in the third match Education XI defeated Secretariat XI on 25th Feb’2020, in the fourth match Education XI defeated Andaman Nicobar Co-opertaive Bank XI on 26th Feb’2020 and defeated District Administration XI on 29th Feb’2020 and qualified for semifinal being topper of Pool A.
In the last league match played against District Administration XI, Team Education XI won the toss and decided to bat first and piled a total of 179 runs in the score boards in the allotted 20 overs. Mr. Simachalan of Education XI created history by scoring 130 odd runs in only 72 balls which includes four 6s and fifteen 4s (boundaries). The spectacular batting performance of Mr. Kamlesh Kumar,DANICS, Director, Education added 31 valuable runs for Education XI with an outstanding partnership of 91 runs for the second wicket, was applauded by the supporters and teachers present in the pavilion .
Education XI will play its Semifinal Match on 6th March 2020 at 06: 45 am at Netaji Stadium. The outstanding performance of Education XI was appreciated by all Senior Officers of Education Department and the teaching fraternity.
Andaman and Nicobar Command Basketball Championship 2017-18
Port Blair, May 11: Andaman & Nicobar Command Basketball Championship 2017-18 was Organized from 07 – 11 May 18 and was conducted at Command Indoor Sports Complex at Minnie Bay, to promote physical fitness and sportsman spirit amongst the service personnel posted in the Command. A total of six teams participated in the tournament and was conducted on a League cum knock out basis. The final match was played between 12 JAT Regiment and 15 ASSAM Regiment and was won by the 12 JAT Regiment. Over all sports championship trophy for the year 2017 – 18 was lifted by the 15 ASSAM Regiment. Major General Beji Mathews, Chief of Staff Andaman & Nicobar Command was the Chief Guest for the event and handed over the medals and trophy to the winning teams.
RSC TT tournament to be held on April 24
Port Blair, April 8: RSC Open Table Tennis tournament will now be held on April 24, 2016 instead of April 10, 2016. Interested players can register their names with Mr Rakesh Chandra Lal over cell number 9933223030. Last date for submitting entry is April 20.
Andaman Marathon on 1st February 2015; ACCI

Port Blair, Dec 16: Good news for sports lovers, the next Andaman Marathon 2015 will be held on 1st February 2015.
In a press conference held at the conference hall of TSG Emerald hotel, Mr G. Bhasker, President, ACCI said that like previous years ACCI is organizing Andaman Marathon in 2015, but there are some changes in the dates because last year ACCI faced a lot of problems due to rain in November.
He said that because of rain ACCI has changed the dates for the convenience of runners
“As usual the main sponsor for this event is makemytrip.com and we have a lot of co-sponsors also,” Mr Bhasker said.
Further addressing the media Mr Mohd Jadwet, Chairman of the advisory committee, ACCI said that more sponsors will be joining the even as ACCI’s budget for the event is quite high that of last year.
“This year Andaman Chamber of Commerce is conducting this marathon in association with Andaman Administration and all its departments like Sports, Youth Affairs, Education department, the Health Department, the Police department plus the Andaman & Nicobar Command, which provide all possible support every year and also provide runners. This year we are giving ample time to all runners so that they can start practicing and I am also happy to inform you that this time we are expecting 20-25 foreign professional runners. In recent marathon at Pune there were nearly 180 foreign runners and they all were informed about the Andaman Marathon and after doing Delhi, Goa, Kolkata they are going to come here and we are offering them seats in our chartered flights. The LG has told us that we can take seats for them in our chartered flights so that we have quality runners so that we can get that kind of mileage. Our Lt. Governor will flag off the marathon,” Mr Jadwet added.
Further Mr Jadwet added that Rahul Bose will continue to be Andaman Marathon’s brand ambassador. “He has always showed his keen interest in this program. The total prize money this time is 7 lakhs and we will be distributing this in different events. The first major event is “Run for Fun” where the running will start from Cellular Jail to Netaji Stadium and this event will be “open to all” like anybody old or young can join this event, we are hoping for more and more people for joining this event.
The other main category is Half Marathon where most of the professional runners will be running the first prize for this half marathon will be Rs 1lakh, 2nd prize will be Rs 50000 and the third prize will be of Rs 30000 and there will be special prize for the islander who will come first. The third event will be 10K which is the most popular event where more than 300-350 participants take part and there is a special prize for senior categories Male above 50 and female above 50,” Mr Jadwet further added.
He said that the registration will start from 25th of December and will be closed on 25th January. The forms are available in the stadium as well as in the office of ACCI. The registration fees for 10K is Rs 300 and 21K the registration form costs Rs 500.
18th State School Games: Day 3 :: Port Blair dominates Swimming, Outer zones outplay Port Blair in team events
Port Blair, Dec 10: Port Blair zone continues its winning streak in the swimming event on the 3rd day too of the 18th State School Games. In the Girls 50 mtrs back strok, Aishwarya sati of Port Blair zone won the gold medal, whereas Naw Ivy of Maya bunder got silver medal and Projita Das bagged the bronze medal. Surendra Kumar of Port blair showed his skills to win the gold in the 50 mtrs back stroke. In the free style category, Aishwarya once again came out victorious by winning the gold in the 100 mtrs.
But Port Blair zone could not continue its success story in the team events. In the kho-kho semifinal of girls Diglipur defeated Car Nicobar by one inning and 19 points. Little Andaman boys showed their
excellence in the kho-kho semi final and won the match against Wimberlygunj. In the boys Volley ball semifinal Nancowry boys registered their supremacy against Car Nicobar and entered into the final. The Girls of Car Nicobar though brought some smiles by defeating Port Blair zone in the semifinal.
In the hockey event, Rangat and Maya bunder will clash in the final. In the first semifinal Rangat defeated Little Andaman and Maya Bunder outplayed Diglipur in the second semifinal to enter in the final
today. In the yoga and Table Tennis competitions the players of Port Blair maintained their dominance and won all the semifinal matches of all categories.
The Director Sports Shri Dharmendra Kumar and Deputy Director(Planning) shri Shashi Kumar were the special guests who gave away the prizes to the winners.
Rajina Kiro to represent India in Asian Games
Port Blair, Sept. 12: Miss. Rajina Kiro (ASI) from A & N Police has been selected for Inchon Asian Games, South Korea to be held from 19th September to 2nd October 2014. She is one of 24 team members selected for Indian Team by Indian kayaking and Canoeing Association for this event, it is reported.

Island Girl Deborah reaches Glascow for Commonwealth Games
Port Blair, July 24: The Islands’ ace cyclist Ms Deborah is one among the athletes representing India in the Glascow Commonwealth Games that started on July 23. She will be participating in four events, the 500 Mtrs Time Trial, 200 Mtrs Individual Sprints, 500 Mtrs Team Sprints & Keirin Race as communicated by Cycling Federation of India. Ms Deborah has already won 3 medals at International levels during this year. This is the first time that the Island cyclist is representing the country in the Commonwealth Games. The Sports Departments, State Sports Councils, Andaman & Nicobar Cycling Association and Sports fraternity have conveyed their best wishes to her in this endeavour.
