Rousing welcome to K.P.Mammu after winning medals in World Fire Fighters Games 2022
Port Blair, May 13: The pride of Andaman and Nicobar Islands – Mr. KP Mammu, a resident of Mannarghat, South Andaman recently won accolades in the recent World Fire Fighters Games, 2022 arrived at Port Blair on 12th May 2022.
On his arrival, he was welcomed with a rousing reception by a large number of Islanders, members of the Andaman Moplah Service Organization and the regional citizens of the Mannarghat area including Pradhan Mannarghat and PRI members apart from family members.
Mr. KP Mammu proved his mettle in the World Fire Fighters Games, 2022 held in Portugal. At the outset, he represented and participated in the international event representing India which is a coveted achievement.
Going beyond that, Mr. KP Mammu won 01 Gold Medal and 02 Bronze Medal at the World Fire Fighting Games. He won Gold Medal in the Long Jump event and Bronze medals in 100m Sprint and Javelin throw events. On his arrival in Delhi, he was warmly accorded and welcomed by the Sports Authority of India.
The Executive Committee of AMSO led by Mr. N Yusuf, President and Mr. Abdul Siddique, General Secretary presented bouquets, medals, and shawls to Mr. KP Mammu on his arrival.
Sharing their thoughts, Mr. N. Yusuf expressed that it is a very proud moment for the Islanders. Representing the country at the International level and that too Winning Gold and Bronze medals is indeed a great achievement and congratulated him on behalf of the entire community.
Mr. Abdul Siddique remarked that the achievement of Mr. KP Mammu is a classic example of his sheer dedication, hard work and commitment to sports. He expressed happiness that the achievement of Mr. KP Mammu has come at the right time when the Moplah Community as a whole is celebrating its 100th Year of existence in this beautiful Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Overwhelmed by the rousing reception, Mr. KP Mammu expressed happiness and exhorted that age should not be a factor in achieving unique things in life if one has the sheer dedication, focus, and craving for it. Sending across the message to the youngsters, he urged all youngsters to take an active part in Sports to be focused and healthier and restrain from Drugs and other ill practices in life.
Abdul Aziz launches Day & Night Cricket Tournament at Bambooflat
Port Blair, Jan 03 The District Congress Committee (DCC) President, Mr VK Abdul Aziz and District Congress Committee, General Secretary, Mr Abhibhushan Ghosh on Sunday inaugurated the “Day and Night Cricket Championship Season 3” at Mini Stadium, Bambooflat. The tournament is being organized by the Youth of Bambooflat to promote sports spirit in the area and provide budding talents and an opportunity to come together for the cause of sports.
Mr Aziz formally inaugurated the tournament. The inaugural match was played between Jai Hind Team and Innings Stars, Ferrargunj. About 32 teams are participating in the tournament.
In his address, Mr Aziz asserted that participation in sports ensures a healthy body and mind besides keeping the youth away from drugs. He congratulated the organizers and the participating teams for coming together with a spectacular launch.
Islands’ Cycling Star Esow pedals into Top Ten world Rankings
Port Blair, Aug 11: While entire country is celebrating India’s Gold Medal in Olympics, Island Cycling start Mr. Esow pedaled into top ten world rankings, in the latest UCI Track ranking after the Olympics.
Mr. Esow climbed to the 10th place in the Keirin Olympic Event two ranks below the silver medalist in Olympics Mr. Awang from Malaysia. Mr. Esow is the youngest of all the ten riders.
Still three years to go for next Olympics therefore, Andaman must focus on training and exposure for Mr. Esow.
BJP State President inspects COVID wards
Port Blair, May 29: Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands along with Mr., Uday Shankar Singh, State Media Convener, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands visited G.B Pant Hospital, Port Blair yesterday and inspected various COVID wards, suspect COVID ward and other facilities at the hospital. They also visited the COVID ICU during their visit.
During their visit, they also interacted with several patients in COVID wards and asked them about their problems. The patients gave a positive feedback on their treatment at G.B Pant Hospital
Mr. Ajoy Bairagi and Mr. Uday Shankar Singh also inspected the food being served to the patients as well as other facilities provided to them. All facilities and food were found to be excellent. They also enquired about the availability of oxygen in the hospital and the patients informed that there is no shortage of oxygen in the hospital.
Further the State BJP Leaders also interacted with the doctors and enquired the reason for the increase in death in the Islands due to COVID-19. The doctors informed that the patients in the Islands are not seeking medical help on time and are only contacting the health authorities or visiting the hospital when their oxygen saturation falls and they have difficulty in breathing.
The doctors further informed that the patients should contact the health authorities as soon as they fell they have any symptoms of COVID-19 so that their treatment can be started early to avoid any complications. They further informed that hiding the symptoms of COVID-19 or self treating themselves at home without informing the health authorities and the administration on time will lead to serious complications at later stage.
Mr. Ajoy Bairagi appeals to all Islanders to report any symptoms of COVID-19 to the district administration helpline numbers or to the health authorities so that they can start their treatment early.
Mr. Ajoy Bairagi has lauded the efforts of the doctors, nurses, paramedics, ward boys, safai karamcharis, aayas and every staff of the health department who are working day and night to provide services to the Islanders during this time of the pandemic. He has further lauded the Director of Health Services and the Administration for managing the pandemic so well and providing all facilities to the COVID-19 patients.
Member of Parliament highlights problems of MGNREGA workers
Port Blair, May 30: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, has brought to the notice of Chief Secretary that the MGNREGA workers from North & Middle Andaman and South Andaman have not received their MGNREGA payment since last six months. Due to the pandemic the MGNREGA workers are facing lot of financial hardship specially during the lockdown. MP requested the Chief Secretary to request the concerned department to release the payment of all the MGNREGA workers of three District at the earliest.
Final match for the T20 Cricket Tournament organised by Punjabi Youth Club

Campbell Bay, Mar 16: This is the second time the Punjabi Youth Club of Campbell Bay is organizing the T20 cricket Tournament to boost sportsmanship among the youths of Campbell Bay and to motivate to leave Alcohol and move towards a healthy lifestyle, this tournament started on 25 Feb 2020 total 15 teams from different villages of Great Nicobar Island participated out which the ” Tambi warriors and ESR 11″ reached the final.
The final match was inaugurated by the “Up-Adhyaksh” Zilla Parishad South Andaman Mr. Gagandeep Singh Grewal.
This was the first sports event in which the most elderly Punjabi settler Mr. Hardeep Singh (Ex-serviceman) has came to the ground to give his blessings to the youths to organise such a big event.
The tournament was sponsored by Up-Adhyaksh ZPSA Mr Gagandeep Singh Grewal, Mr Harcharan Singh (STS), Retd. H.M, Mr. Paramjeet Singh (P.S.T), Mr. Satnam Singh (PST), Mr. Rajesh Chadda (Govt. Contractor).
The Tambi Warriors won the finals by 9 wickets in just 13 overs, the man of the series was given to Mr. Dev Kumar, man of the match was given to Mr. Ankit Singh, best bowler was Mr. Nagesh and for giving a boost to the new players the emerging player was awarded to Master Uday kumar.
Final Match of the Mahatma Gandhi Cup T10 Night Cricket League
Port Blair, March 16: The final match of the Mahatma Gandhi Cup T10 Night Cricket League – 2020 was held the Muslim Basti play ground Ograbraj on 14th March 2020 between Unity Group Ograbraj and Ayush Warriors. The Adhyaksh Zilla Parishad, South Andaman Mr. Subir Chander was the chief guest on the occasion. While speaking he lauded the remarkable rise of Youth Club Ograbraj and promised to provide possible assistance from Zilla Parishad and Regional Sports Council (RSC) S/A.
The team of Unity Group Ograbraj won the final by 21 runs. The game was thoroughly enjoyed by the jam-packed sports lovers in Muslim Basti Play ground. Apart from the winner trophy, both the teams were presented with a cash prize of Rs. 20000/- and 10000/- respectively.
Mr. Mohd Hassan of Unity Group Ograbraj was adjudged man of the tournament while man of the match for final contest was also bagged by him.
In his address Mr. Safuwan, Advisory Member, YCOB thanked the chief guest and other dignitaries for gracing the occasion and briefed the gathering about the activities of YCOB.
Earlier, Mr. Mohd Safique, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Mithakhari welcomed the gathering.
The MG Cup T10 Cricket league was hosted by Youth Club Ograbraj in association with Gram Panchayat Mithakhari and supported by Regional Sports Council (RSC) South Andaman.
Zeeshan Cricket Tournament Inaugurated in Kamorta Island
Port Blair, March 16: Zeeshan Cricket Tournament was inaugurated yesterday in which Mr. Rayhaan Pasha, president of Nicobar Youth Association was the chief guest of the occasion and Mr. Ebrahim Jadwet, Executive Secretary on Nicobar Chamber of Commerce and Industry was the guest of honour. The ceremony was also graced by Mr. Cherian Mathew, BDO, Dr. Ganesha, Chief Medical Officer and Mr. Vijay Kumar, SHO Nancowrie. Mrs. Mehnaz Majid Director of Mehnaz Industries was also present on the occasion. The inaugural match which was of 20 overs was played between Police team and Nagpuri Boys in which the Police team won the match.
Sports Infrastructures to Remain Closed till Mar 31
Port Blair, March 13: Sports infrastructure such as Stadiums, Mini stadiums, Multipurpose Indoor Sports Hall, Gym, Velodrome, Tennis Court, Swimming Pool etc. of the Department of Sports in A&N Islands shall be closed with immediate effect as a preventive measure against spread of Novel Corona virus disease (COVID-19) till March 31, 2020, a communication from the Assistant Director (Sports) said here today.
