Diglipur, Apr 02: Yet another incident of Bush Fire was reported today from Madhupur-1 village of Diglipur region. As per reports available here a farmer had set fire in his fields to clear wild grasses but the fire took dangerous shape. Fearing that the bush fire will reach to their house, villagers reported the matter to fire brigade and due to timely action of Fire Brigade the fire was soon brought under total control.

Earlier in the morning another fire incident was reported from Bitumen Drum, kept near Electricity Power House of Sitanagar, which was also controlled on time by Diglipur Fire Service unit.

Diglipur, Mar 31: Nearly one week after P Gopo’s murder, another dead body was found today near Aerial Bay Jetty of Diglipur Island under similar suspicious condition. The deceased was later identified as Antony Lakra, aged 56 years. According to reports, Lakra was working as labourer in Agriculture Department of Diglipur.

Suspicion growing over the death of Mr. Lakra as he was supposed get his voluntarily retirement on Monday. Moreover eyewitnesses claim that they had seen some injuries on the forehead of Mr. Antony Lakra. Sources said that Lakra was a habitual drunker and has no one in Andaman. His wife lives in Mainland while his son had died here long back. Police have reportedly registered a case and investigating in all possible angles.

Diglipur, Mar 27: One person has been arrested by Andaman and Nicobar Police this morning for molesting at 14 year old girl at Krishnapur Village of Diglipur Island.

According to report Subhankar Mandal, resident of Krishnapur Village had entered the house of his neighbours yesterday night with a knife and molested a minor girl. The girl Seema (name changed) and her 11 year old sister immediately raised alarm and called neighbours.

According to police, both the sisters were alone at home as their parents had gone to some other place and Subhankar reportedly was trying to take advantage of the situation.

“This morning when parents of Seema returned to Krishnapur Village, a police complaint was lodged and Subhakar was immediately arrested and presented before the court, from where he has been sent to Judicial Custody,” a senior police officer told ‘Express’, who do not want his name to be quoted. 24 year old Subhankar Mandal, a private worker, is already married and has a child.

Diglipur, Mar 25: A major fire was averted yesterday at Shibpur Village of Diglipur Island because of swift action of Diglipur’s Fire Service Unit and Fire Service of Indian Navy.

According to report at around 12.00 noon a fire call was received from Pradhan of Shibpur Village, Ms Nilu Mazumder. As per the call there was a bush fire very close to Shibpur, Sub Centre, of Diglipur. The bush fire had triggered a panic among the staff of Sub Centre.

However, fire personnel of Indian Navy and A & N Fire Services controlled the fire well on time doused the fire and saved the Shibpur Sub Centre. There was no report of any causality.

Diglipur, Mar 22: Mr. Akram Feroze, a Cyclist Dramatist met with an accident today while he was heading toward Diglipur, on his cycle. According to reports, near a sharp turning at Kerala Junction (nearly 12 km away from Diglipur) Akram failed to negotiate with the turn and fell into a 15 feet deep trench. But the Cyclist Dramatist, dramatically survived the accident but his cycle was heavily damaged.

Akram was lucky again that he was still within mobile network coverage area and hence he immediately called people at Port Blair for help. Soon a SOS update was posted by Mr. Zubair Ahmed, Editor of Light of Andaman in Facebook. Mr. D J Venkatesh from A&Z Travels, Diglipur reacted immediately to the Facebook message and sent a vehicle to rescue Akram. He was immediately brought to Community Health Centre Diglipur for treatment. As there were no major injuries, Akram was allowed to leave the hospital after first aid. According to last report Akram, has now got his cycle repaired and is planning to stay back in Diglipur for few days. Akram Feroze is popular for organizing street plays on social issues in remote areas.

Billyground, Mar 18: Andaman Sheekha in its Feb 10, 2012 issue had highlighted that how due to negligence of APWD the work for repair of Swadesh Nagar Bridge is getting delayed. Following the report the Chief Engineer of Andaman PWD today visited Middle Andaman and inspected the bridge. Mr. Balbir Singh, SE (Planning), the JE of the concerned area and also the Contractor were also present during the inspection. According to sources almost all the points raised by Andaman Sheekha was found to be true. The Chief Engineer has reportedly given direction to the JE and Contractor to make sure that the Bridge repair work ends as early as possible.

Cutbert Bay beach is not the only beach thrown open for four legged visitors, in almost all the beaches of Andaman and Nicobar Islands this has become a common site. Sadly with this kind of management of our picturesque beaches, we talk about promotion of tourism in international level. The Administration must plan some kind of joint committee consisting of people from Administration, Tourism Department, panchayats, NGOs and civil societies for proper upkeep of all beaches of A & N Islands.
