Port Blair, July 16: In a major step to contain the burgeoning number of COVID-19 cases in South Andaman District, the District Magistrate has prohibited manufacture, storage, distribution and sale on all forms of processed/flavoured/scented chewing tobacco, whether going by the name of Gutkha, Pan masala, Zarda packed and unpacked/loose etc. which contain tobacco and or nicotine as an ingredient in the entire District of South Andaman.
In this connection the Officials of Food Safety Department of District Administration conducted surprise inspections in and around Port Blair Municipal area. During the inspection huge quantities of Gutkha, Pan Masala, Khaini and scented tinned tobacco were seized. Punitive actions as deemed fit are being initiated against the violators.
The District Magistrate, South Andaman District warned all concerned to refrain from sale of tobacco products to deter public from spitting in public places to contain the spread of COVID 19 in the District. The general public are requested to lodge complaints, if any, to toll free No. 1070, 03192-236168.
67th Constable Batch of Andaman and Nicobar police, completes 10 years of services; Cops donate Blood

Port Blair, Jul 15: On the 10th anniversary of 2011 Constable Batch of Andaman and Nicobar Police, various programs were organized by police jawans of the batch in South Andaman District.
As per information received a blood donation camp was organized in GB Pant Hospital yesterday, in which around 10 police personnel donated Blood and also in next few coming days more police personnel will be donating their blood.
It was learnt that on this occasion food was also provided to Old Age Home, Ferrargunj, and Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram and at Bethel Children’s Home, Bathubasti and more foods will be provided at various Ashrams and in coming days too.
As per information received an amount of Ten thousand rupees was also donated to a 20 year old girl, cancer patients of Ograbraj, by the cops.
South Andaman District imposes Tobacco Ban
Port Blair, July 15: The District Magistrate of South Andaman today issued order to prohibit manufacturing, storage, distribution & sell of all form of tobacco & nicotine products in the entire district from today itself till further order.
“The District Administration is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and noticed that there is a steep increase in positive cases in the past few days in some areas and one of the major cause of the spread of virus is caused due to spitting in public places. It has been noticed at large that the people living in the islands are in the habit of chewing tobacco and spitting at public places which thereby cause the spread of the virus,” the District Magistrate of South Andaman, Mr. Suneel Anchipaka mentioned in his order.
He added that in order to place strict measures of control the same and to prevent any further spread of the virus in the community at large manufacture, storage, distribution and sale on all forms of processed/flavoured/scented chewing tobacco, whether going by the name of Gukta, Pan Masala, Zarda packed and unpacked/loose etc., which contain tobacco and or nicotine as ingredient has been prohibited in the entire District of South Andaman for a period of one month with immediate effect in the interest of public health.
However officials COVID-19 data shows situation more or less under control in entire Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
As per last update there are only 11 COVID-19 active cases in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and since the beginning total 7499 people have been tested COVID-19 positive in this UT out of which 7359 people have recovered.
In the first and second waves of COVID-19 altogether 129 deaths have been recorded due to COVID-19 infection in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
South Andaman Police Confiscate 66.5 Kgs of Venison
Port Blair, July 15: South Andaman Police continuing its action on illegal trade and poaching of wildlife animals has achieved great success on 14/07/2021 by confiscating 66.5 Kgs of venison.
A credible information was received that a person was transporting venison (Deer meat) in PS Chatham Jurisdiction. Acting swiftly on the information, a team headed by Insp. Jyoti Chhatwal SHO PS Chatham, along with PSI Sumit Singh, HC Victor Dung Dung, PCs A. Abdul Sameer and K. Ali reached the spot and identified the person.
Upon search, a total of 66.5 Kg of venison was found in his possession. The accused was apprehended and the venison was seized on the spot. The accused is identified as Harshit Gain S/o Shri Lal Mohan Gain (46 yrs) Pvt. Worker R/o Bathu Basti near Marine Colony. The seized venison and the dinghy used by the accused were handed over to Range Officer (Protection) Wild Life Division No.1 for further necessary action as per the Wildlife Protection Act.
The general public is requested to share information pertaining to any crime or other illegal activities to police at 112, 03192-232100 & 03192-233077. The identity of the informant will be kept secret.
South Andaman Police’s Major Crackdown on Illicit Liquor
Port Blair, July 14: On 13/07/2021, at about 1400 hrs, a special jungle and creek search has been conducted at Hasmatabad seashore by the police personnel of PS Humfrygunj comprising with SI Anik Das, SHO PS Humfrygunj alongwith HC/2336 Bijoy Sarkar, HC/762 Abdul Basir, PC/2449 Florence Barla, PC/1571 Ignacius Kujur, PC/1102 Sankar Aind, PC/2647 Auragnzeb Ahmed and HC/827 Pratap Tigga (PMF).
During the search, a total of approx 1050 liters of lehan (Premature illicit liquor) was recovered in 02 Nos. iron drum, 02 Nos. plastic drum and 06 Nos. 35 ltrs capacity plastic jerricane. All the recovered lehan and other articles were destroyed at the spot after proper photography and videography. Due to hardwork and dedication done by the police personnel of PS Humfrygunj, such huge quantity of lehan was recovered and subsequently destroyed all the illicit liquor manufacturing articles.
The whole operation was conducted under the supervision of SDPO Bambooflat Shri Saurabh Chandra, DANIPS. The General Public is requested to inform about any such activities or any other illegal activities to the Police on Phone No.100, 03192-287590, 03192-258019.
South Andaman Police initiates intensive Special Drive against Drunken Driving
Port Blair, July 11: Acting proactively on the fact that the ANIIDCO shops and bars have been opened after lockdown relaxations, South Andaman Police has started intensive special drive against drunken driving and persons causing nuisance under influence of intoxication.
To crack down the whip against drunken driving, multiple mobile checking teams have been formed and the barricade staffs have been tasked to strictly check the vehicles and their drivers. All the violators will be challaned as per law and their vehicles will be impounded.
Strict action against drunken driving is necessary to keep crime under control and safety of others on road. Yesterday (10 July), 09 persons have been challaned for drunken driving and their vehicles have been impounded.
In addition, 08 persons have been booked U/s 34(6) of Police Act for creating nuisance under influence of liquor. Three accident cases for rash & negligent driving under intoxication have been registered and accused arrested in the district yesterday (10th July). In one case registered in PS Ograbraj, driver under the influence of alcohol lost the control and drove the car into the sea. Sudden spurt is witnessed in calls related to violence under the influence of alcohol.
South Andaman police appeals to the all residents to refrain from drunken driving for their own safety and for the safety of others. Strict action against drunken driving will continue to be intensified in the coming days. Double Murder in Port Blair; Police Cracks Case within Few Hours
Port Blair, July 09: On 8th July, 2021 at about 2125 hrs, an information was received at PS Aberdeen that two persons were lying unconscious in a pool of blood in the Gandhi Market complex. On this, a team of PS Aberdeen rushed to the spot and identified the two persons as Shankar @ Chennai Mistry, (45)yrs, an Auto Mechanic based at Gandhi market and K. Arumugam S/o Kali Kujan (40)yrs, R/o Brookshabad. The crime scene was secured and all the evidences were lifted and seized scientifically. Then, a key evidence in the form of CCTV footage was obtained from a nearby shop. Acting swiftly on this lead, multiple search teams were formed to nab the accused.
Within a few hours, the dedicated staff of PS Aberdeen apprehended the accused Abdul Azeem and recovered the weapon used for committing the murder at the instance of the accused. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were brutally beaten to death with a metal pipe by the accused Abdul Azeem following a verbal altercation. The accused has previous criminal antecedents and is a vagabond of the same area. The accused was remanded to 14 Days judicial custody and further investigation of the case is in progress. The entire investigation took place under the direct supervision of SDPO South Andaman, ASP Kalaivanan R, IPS.
It is to re-iterate that CCTV cameras installed at various shops in the Gandhi Market complex played a key role in cracking the case. Hence, it is appealed to the general public especially owners of all commercial establishments and market associations to install CCTV cameras in their premises which help improve the safety and security of property and human lives.
Suicide of Mother and suspected Murder of Infant in New Pahargaon

Port Blair, July 09: Two unnatural deaths have been reported in Police Station Pahargaon yesterday, in which suspected suicide of one lady and suspected murder of her infant, under suspicious conditions have been mentioned.
Immediately a police team reached the spot and conducted further investigation.
As per information yesterday evening a defense persons, who used to live in a rented house in New Pahargaon, when returned back home after duty found doors locked from inside. Even after repeated efforts he did not get any response from his wife. Soon people living nearby gathered. Later the doors were forced opened by the defense person and neighbours.
Inside, they found wife of the defense person hanging from ceiling fan while the infant daughter was unconscious with injuries over neck.
Immediately both were rushed to INHS Dhanvantri hospital, where doctor declared them brought death. Later the bodies were taken to GB Pant hospital for Postmortem. Police is investigation the case in every possible angle, more details are awaited.
Forth Accused of Fake Driving License Case brought to Port Blair today

Port Blair, July 08: The Central Crime Station unit of Andaman and Nicobar Police have till now arrested four people in a fake Driving License racket, which was first detected from defence area under Andaman and Nicobar Command. As per details while the first accused has been arrested from Andaman, three other people connected in this racket have been arrested from Mainland India.
The fourth accused have been brought to Port Blair today via flight from Jharkhand, it is reported.
As per details last month an officer of Andaman and Nicobar Command got information about a person, who is a Barber and running a Barber shop in NAVC building (inside Naval area of Andaman Nicobar Command), allegedly involved in selling fake Driving License to people.
Soon a surprise checking was carried out in his shop during which they recovered some fake documents and immediately the matter was informed to Police Station Central Crime Station, on which Police Team CCS arrested the accused Mr. Ratan Sarkar, a resident of Ograbraj and permanent resident of 24 Paragana, West Bengal.
As per details, two accused, who were arrested recently from West Bengal and Odisha, were already sent to Port Blair while the fourth accused was brought to Port Blair today. Andaman and Nicobar Police have also been investigating whether these accused have any Bangladeshi intruder link.
Three more arrested from Mainland in Fake Driving License Racket

Port Blair, July 07: Under the leadership of present Director General of Police, a team of A & N Police has successfully arrested three accused from Mainland India in fake driving license racket, in which once person namely Mr. Ratan Sarkar, a resident of Ograbraj and permanent resident of 24 Paragana, West Bengal was arrested last month.
As per reports on 25 June 2021 an officer of Andaman and Nicobar Command got information about a person, who is a Barber and running a Barber shop in NAVC building, allegedly involved in selling fake Driving License to people. Soon a surprise checking was carried out in his shop during which they recovered some fake documents and immediately the matter was informed to PS CCS, on which Police Team CCS arrested the accused Mr. Ratan Sarkar. It is learnt that after the arrest joint interrogation of the accused was also carried out to get details about the complete racket and locate other accused, based in Mainland India.
As per details, two accused, who were arrested recently, were already sent to Port Blair and one more accused, who was arrested later, will be brought to Port Blair soon. With this total four arrests have been made in fake driving license case.
It seems that under the present DGP, all units of Andaman and Nicobar Police are totally charged up and because of this, such difficult arrests are possible.
As no Police Officer was available to comment on this issue, further details are awaited.
