Port Blair, Nov 27: Death of a 21 year old Elephant of Kalighat range, namely Raj Bahadur has created a ripple in social media.
The photograph of the dead elephant is now doing round in social media in which people are demanding to fix responsibility on people, who are responsible for the death of the young Elephant.
Andaman Sheekha tried to contact the DFO (Wildlife) of Mayabunder over landline and also the PCCF (Wildlife) over mobile but they could not be contacted during late evening today.
There are many who are alleging that the death of the Elephant was due to negligence of Forest Department. Some are also alleging that the elephant was in a state of “musth” and after some injections were administered to the elephant, the elephant died. But no one seems to be ready to officially comment on this matter or issue a clarification.
The Range Officer of Kalighat Range told Andaman Sheekha reporter that he is not authorized to say anything in this regard. He said that the concerned DFO can only give a reply and he also said that post mortem of the elephant is still pending. Meanwhile it is learnt that the Veterinary unit of Diglipur has been given the responsibility of conducting Post Mortem of this elephant.
