Havelock, Jan 12: The Secretary, Havelock Paryatak Seva Sangh, Mr Adhir Kumar Mitra has written a letter to the Lt Governor, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and requested his intervention for solving various issues related to the Tourism in the Havelock Island.
In a letter addressed to the Lt Governor, the Secretary, Havelock Paryatak Seva Sangh, Mr Adhir Kumar Mitra stated that a representation regarding the problems they are facing was given on dated 03 Feb, 2017 and on 16th Oct, 2017 but they neither got any reply nor any action has been taken by the administration in that regard.
Anguish on this, Mr Adhir in his letter has also mentioned the Lt Governor that if their problems are not sorted out immediately, the Sangh will hold a dharna on 20th Jan, 2018 by stopping all the commercial vehicles and if even after that no action is taken by the Administration, the Sangh will organize another dharna on 25th January, 2018.
On behalf of, Havelock Tourist Boat Association, Auto Association, and advice of Zilla Parishad, Pradhans and the suggestion from the different corners of the Havelock Island, Mr Adhir highlighted few grievances faced not only by the local residents but also the tourists visiting Havelock Island.
In his letter he started with the problem of ferry visiting Havelock, which according to him is not sufficient looking at the rush of tourist and the problem of the islanders.
“Every day there is a big fight in front of the ticket counter for tickets which creates havoc. Several intimations have been sent to the authority, but nothing has been done so far,” Mr Adhir stated in his letter.
Mr Adhir demanded a bigger ferry for the Havelock Island so that the problem can be solved.
Further he mentioned about the roads from Dolphin resort to Kalapathar and from Krishna Nagar to Radhanagar which are in worst conditions.
Mr Adhir further mentioned about the issues in the Havelock Jetty area and stated that there is no proper facility of parking in the jetty area because the area is full of unused and old building, godowns and few out of order buses, which creates inconvenience for the movement of vehicles near the jetty.
He further added that the long pending demand of petrol and diesel pump was fulfilled but to the utter dismay sufficient quantity is not being supplied in the Havelock Region following which the islanders have to suffer.
He urged the Lt Governor either to increase the quantity of diesel and petrol or set up another pump in the region.
Further he has also mentioned about the parking problems both in Radhanagar and Kalapathar Beach area and demanded proper parking facilities in both the popular tourist spots.
Mr Adhir also mentioned in his letter that the newly constructed road from Havelock Harbor to Govinda Nagar Market is having a low height divider for the cycle track, hardly any cycle ply on the said track instead the vehicles are getting damaged because of the divider. The divider is too low and during night hours the divider could hardly be seen, causing accidents. He requested the Lt Governor to issue order to remove the dividers.
Lastly he added that Non Tourist Vehicle is also seen plying with tourist which is totally against law. He stated that this issue has been highlighted many a times but no action has been taken by the concerned authorities yet.
Mr Adhir demanded the Lt Governor to issue immediate orders to the concerned authorities to take action against the Non Tourist Vehicle carrying tourists. Lastly he added that internet connectivity and bad network coverage on mobiles is highly affecting the tourism in the islands.
