Port Blair, Nov 17: The mobile food processing unit of Unnati’s food processing training centre organise a fish based food processing training program on 16 November 2021 at Hathitapu on the request of Smti Manjit Kaur, President Roshni Self Help Group in which 20 Self Help Group members from 5 Self Help Groups participated. The training was conducted by Smti Sabrun Nisha, trainer. During the training the methodology about preparation of fish pickle was demonstrated. Smti Manjit Kaur during interaction session pointed out that the Self Help Group moment need to be strengthened and supported meaningfully for empowerment of women.
President Unnati mentioned that the Self Help Group movement may be successful if after – support from concerned departments are ensured besides identification and earmarking of some activities exclusively for Self Help Groups by the Government departments /Panchayat/ Municipal Council as being done in various States and UTs in mainland as detailed give below like Gujarat – office cleaning works, self management of canteen in Government offices, Jharkhand – PDS by Self Help Groups, Kerala – life serving efforts, IT units for computerised works, Maharashtra – electric bill distribution, fish rearing in Panchayat pond and Government pond on lease basis, PDS, Odisha – gas cylinder distribution, Tamil Nadu – hygienic life to manage toilet etc. by Self Help Groups, catering services, West Bengal – care given to sick, canteen in block office etc. We may consider to award many works like these considering our local situation.
He further said much could be achieved for empowering women through Self Help Groups as achieved by Bangladesh. Considering the importance of Self Help Groups moment our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi recently had a video conference with Self Help Groups in which all heads of the Department of States and UTs also participated. Hopeful the Self Help Group movement now would receive the required support and assistance for empowering women.
