Port Blair, Nov 02: The Bharatiya Janta Party National Executive Committee Member & Former State President of A &N BJP State Unit, Mr. Vishal Jolly today demanded to increase the number of convoys operating in Andaman Trunk Road.
In his letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, Mr. Jolly mentioned that the convoy operating between Jirkatang to Middle Strait and from Middle Strait to Jirkatang has been curtailed and restricted to a limited movement due to the COVID pandemic since March 2020.
“Due to the imposition of the above restriction of movement of convoy the essential service and other routine activities has immensely affected and causing huge hardship to the commuters and also badly affecting the life and livelihood of the entire population living in the logistically constrained district of North & Middle Andaman,” he pointed out.
Mr. Jolly mentioned that the present pandemic situation is gradually improving as A & N Administration has already inoculated and covered the COVID vaccine to the targeted populations and the situations are completely normalized observing the present active cases of COVID in these islands.
Therefore considering the difficulties faced by the commuters for their day-to-day livelihood, Mr. Jolly demanded that the present convoy trip between Jirkatang to Middle Strait and vice versa be increased from the present number of convoys by ensuring to maintain the COVID protocols as per instruction from Govt. of India and Andaman & Nicobar Administration from time to time.
