The Wildlife Week is celebrated every year from 2nd October to 8th October all over the country coinciding with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. It aims to sensitize people about the role of wildlife in maintaining a healthy ecosystem and to inculcate a sense of responsibility upon every citizen towards protection and conservation of the wildlife and its habitats. The celebration also inculcates culture of tolerance, understanding and compassion for the wild animals.
The Andaman & Nicobar Islands have a rich and fascinating biodiversity with high degree of endemism. Given its importance, my Administration has taken several measures to protect and conserve our wildlife and biodiversity and wholehearted support of the people of these Islands is necessary for its success.
On the occasion of the 67th Wildlife Week, 2021 and celebration of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, let us redeem our resolve to protect and conserve our wildlife and its habitat to maintain the ecological security and integrity of our Islands. I would also like to call upon the general public, especially the children and youth to become the torch bearers in taking forward the important agenda of conserving and protecting the rich natural heritage of these Islands.
