Port Blair, Sept 30: ANTCC Campaign Committee Chairman Mr. TSG Bhasker on Thursday wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary stating his concern over the non-issuance of Islander cards since past 2 years.
In the letter, Mr. Bhasker pointed out that “The Islander Card is a very essential identity document for students as it helps them in getting preference during admission at various colleges/universities of mainland. Also, it helps the Pre-42 settler students to get admission in our Island’s colleges based on their quota”
Further he stated that “Apart from students, the Islander card also benefits the local Islanders in obtaining concessional inter-island ship and helicopter tickets”.
In this connection, he sought Chief Secretary’s intervention in this matter and requested him to start issuing Islander cards at the earliest.
