Port Blair, Sep 19: Mr. Govind Ram, General Secretary of Dweep Janata Party said that democracy cannot be established in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands without Pradesh Council or the Assembly.
Addressing reporters at the party office of DJP on Saturday he said that for the establishment of democracy in the archipelago, a memorandum would be given to the Home Minister, who is visiting the Islands, on behalf of the party to constitute a Pradesh Council or an Assembly. He said that Panchayat, Zilla Panchayat and Municipal Council have no justification in these Islands.
“No opinion is taken from the elected public representatives for making any plan and implementing it. The officials decide the agenda and plan according to their own accord”, he alleged.
He said that till the time, the Pradesh Council or the Legislative Assembly does not come in the archipelago, such things will continue and the public representatives will not have any role in the archipelago.
“The Dweep Janata Party is working towards its 18 agenda in the archipelago. He said that the first agenda of the party is to establish a Pradesh Council in the archipelago. Establishment of Tribes Advisory Council for Nicobari tribes. Andaman and Nicobar UT cadre should be set up,” said Mr. Ram.
The General Secretary further said that a major agenda of his party is that there should be a system of 100 percent reservation in government jobs for the local youths so that outsiders do not come and take over the jobs here.
He said that the major agenda of his party include filling up of vacant posts in all departments of the administration, regularization of employees working in the offices on daily basis for many years, setting up of Fire and Rescue Service Department in the islands etc.
Party president Col. K. B. Cherian said that none of our party’s agenda is personal. This is a matter of interest to all the islanders.
